Algorithmic Audio App Crafts Immersive Sound Environments for Galleries and Spaces
Electronic soundscape artist digitalTRAFFIC launches a web-based generative engine capable of deploying endless, evolving ambient backgrounds for physical exhibitions.
EDINBURGH, Scotland – Modern exhibition curation is increasingly relying on auditory stimuli to transform galleries and physical spaces into multi-sensory, immersive environments. In a bid to democratise this technology, electronic soundscape producer digitalTRAFFIC has released a specialised soundscape generator web application. Operating directly out of a standard web browser, the studio app provides curators with an automated tool to deploy changing background audio tailored to their specific exhibitions.
Immersive Spatial Audio
The application’s coding architecture coordinates six independent audio sub-layers to construct rich, cinematic environments. By blending organic-sounding field recordings with cold, industrial isolation tones, the engine establishes a distinct contrast between natural and synthetic worlds. This makes the tool ideal for physical spaces, art galleries, and modern museums that require an overarching auditory layer to unify their displayed visual collections.
Curating with Sound Parameters
The app’s interface features five parameter controllers that allow gallery curators to precisely match the audio to the room's physical mood. Sliders for darkness and dissonance can be dialled down to generate airy, calming backdrops, or elevated to introduce tense, metallic textures for avant-garde showcases. The movement parameter introduces automated stereo panning, making the audio travel dynamically across a multi-speaker gallery sound system.
Infinite Exhibition Playback
For extended gallery operational hours, the studio application includes an integrated 'infinitii loop' mode that overrides standard track durations. When activated, the software ignores the standard 5-minute track limits and shifts into an endless, self-evolving playback state. The script continually calculates randomised variations in layering and frequency filtering, meaning the background soundscape remains cohesive without repeating or cutting out.
Seamless Deployment
Created in Edinburgh by producer donaldo tho, the digitalTRAFFIC system is highly optimised for light, cross-platform performance across desktop and mobile devices. Curators can manage an entire room's sonic environment from a single interface, export the custom tracks, or let the engine stream live during exhibition hours. The interactive studio console will be open to the public and accessible soon: (link coming soon).
